Franz Weninger makes wine in a special part of the world, both in Burgenland, Austria, and just across the border where Hungary dips into Austria. Borders are weird! We have included a photo from maps to give you an idea of what we're talking about. This is about a 45 minute drive south from Gut Oggau, if you're planning a trip for the future! In Hungary the name Blaufrankisch becomes Kekfrankos, which is also fun to say. This grape is prized here for a reason - it transmits so much information about its terroir, is extremely delicious, and can age forever if you are patient.
And fun to drink! Holy this wine is good and we wish we had more of it. If you love an elegant, medium bodied, spicy red like Blaufrankish (or like Syrah or Cab Franc maybe?) this Kekfrankos will knock your socks off.
